Did you know that marjoram is actually an herb? It's basically oregano's cousin. Did you also know that Marjoram is Mari Jo Ramie, all smashed into one word? It's serendipitous to her cooking career. It was meant to be.
Chef Mari is a native of Syracuse, New York, and has lived in Charleston for the past nine years. When she first arrived, it was to work with her friend and mentor, who was the sous chef at Union Provisions (now known as The Darling on King Street). Mari came to check out the town in July 2014 and moved that October. She loved this town that she calls "a playground for chefs." ​
A DEFINED & SPECIALIZED SKILLSET
With twenty years of restaurant experience, Chef Mari has been a part of multiple restaurant openings in Charleston.
Chef Mari is a life long learner and recently gained a new skill set on plant-based vegan meals while working as the lead chef at Gunnarmade Meal Prep. Thanks to their vegan consultant and best selling author, Chef Doug McNish, Mari can create nutrient-dense and allergy-safe menus that the whole party can enjoy. Even if you don't think you like plant based meals, you will be very surprised on how flavorful these dishes are.
In 2023, Chef Mari worked as the kitchen manager at The Honey Hive on Upper King Street. There, she learned the world of pastries and had the freedom to create entree specials.
A TRAVELLER AT HEART
Chef Mari travels all over Charleston (and even out of state!) cooking custom menus for events. Being a private chef allows her to be creative and visit many exciting places. But most of all, she loves to help the families come together and ensure everyone can enjoy themselves without worrying about what's going on in the kitchen.

Let's not forget about her dog, Basil! Her hound/pointer mix shown in the photo. There is a custom spicy blend in the merchandise collection that is a blend marjoram + basil. Chef and her best friend, together forever.
